Happiest

20 Jan

As you may have guessed I have been having a bit of trouble blogging lately. Good ol’ writer’s block. I’m not sure why – I think it’s because it’s the summer holidays and my brain has been switched off for 5 weeks. When it’s asked to think about something it blanks out a little. Stupid brain.

Getting back into school at the end of next week is going to be HARD.

Noticing my frustration my mum went and found me a bunch of links with suggestions on what to blog about. She also bought me a book of blogging tips. I swear, best mum ever. SO for this particular post I’m going to cheat and let Plinky come up with a topic: List 10 things that make you happy. That is not too taxing for my brain to think about, which is good.

These are 10 things that make me happy – not the top 10 things, just so you know, and in no particular order either.

1. Unicorns

There’s a lot of debate among the online community about whether unicorns are good or the blackest evil. Some people are convinced that unicorns are the spawn of Satan, but I say nay! (See what I did there, because unicorns neigh, and I said nay… ugh, never mind. I’m funny, dammit.) I am unashamed to admit that the sight of a unicorn, especially one paired with a rainbow like Mr Suave on the right there, fills me with girly happiness. Unicorns. Are. Awesome. End of story.

2. Food

It was pointed out to me the other day that it seems like Australians, or at least east-coast Australians, seriously, seriously enjoy their food. Like, a lot, compared to the rest of the world. Being raised in a foodie family, I don’t know how it’s physically possible to not enjoy good food. And by “enjoy”, I mean sit there and moan “this is AMAZING” while eating. I love my food. Actually, just writing this has made me quite hungry. Ramen for dinner! :D

3. Pointless, trivial, but awesome facts

One of my favourite things is getting attention. (SURPRISE!!!) And I’ve found that one of the best ways to gain attention in short bursts is by knowing useless but impressive facts. It doesn’t come up in conversation very often, I’ll admit, but I pride myself in knowing that the average person spends approximately 3 years of their life on the toilet. And that King Henry VIII was buried with his third wife. And that you’re marginally taller in the morning than you are at night. (I swear I knew all these. I didn’t Google, I promise.)

4. Popping pimples

OK, vaguely gross, but those things are wicked fun. Enough said.

5. John Green

John Green is an American author and internet personality. He is smart, talented, relatively young, totally cute with his son, freaking hilarious, and he and his brother Hank have awesome video making skills. I love all of John’s books and I live for the videos he does. I respect him enormously, and if I ever got to meet him I would either be the happiest or most speechless person in the world. Even though he despises unicorns, he is still one of my ultimate idols and I wish him every fortune in his hopefully long life ahead.

NERDFIGHTERS!

6. Technology that aids communication

As in the internet. And mobile phones. As you can probably tell from my few years of continuous blogging, I love the internet and the internet loves me. Everything fun is on the internet. So much knowledge and creativity and just general STUFF is on the internet. The internet brings cool people (generally) together to do cool things. Seriously, you can never be bored online. And as for phones, I actually really hate talking on the phone because I find it awkward, but texting is super fun. *waggles eyebrows*

7. Movies

There’s not a lot to say on the subject of movies. I really enjoy submerging myself in fictional worlds. I find movies incredibly suggestive and they keep my brain working. That’s about it.

8. Being at home alone

This is like having a party by myself. I can walk around naked, I can either pig out or be too lazy to feed myself, I can sleep all day, I can play REALLY LOUD MUSIC, I can Facebook about playing really loud music…

Actually, looking back on that list it doesn’t sound like too much fun. I guess I just like being by myself, because I do really enjoy doing those things. Those things are very enjoyable.

9. Apple

No, not the fruit, you numbskull, the company. Wanna know why they make me happy? Because all their products are GORGEOUS and their Macs are super user-friendly and generally sexy. Although most of you probably disagree with me on this – you probably think PCs are eternally better than Macs. This is another one of those things that most people are divided over, like the unicorn business – Mac or PC? Actually, in the comments, let me know which product you prefer. I don’t mind PCs at all and I think they’re great too, but I’m generally a Mac person.

10. Writing

Last, but certainly, certainly not least (in fact, if I were doing a top 10 things instead of just a general 10 things then this would probably be right up there in the top 5) writing makes me happy. And I know what you’re saying now, you’re saying “Well, if writing makes you so happy, Za, why haven’t you blogged for a month?” And to that all I can say is that I just don’t know. I LOVE to write but for some reason these holidays my writing muscles have shrivelled up a little bit. So we’ve come full circle, we’re back to the beginning of the post, and I’m still just as sorry for not blogging as I was when I started writing. And really, I have no excuse. But thanks for sticking with me anyway.

I’m off now, this has gone on for long enough. Sayonara, auf Wiedersehen, ciao, au revoir, goodbye!

xx
Za.

Bit sneaky: the title says HAPPIEST but the small print says happy.
1.Unicorns. Fantasy is good, but it’s also important to know the difference
2.Food. I’ve never been a foody. Eat to live I say.
3.Facts. See above re reality. Knowing stuff is good.
4.Popping pimples. Gross to talk about.
    5.John Green. I’ll have a look.
6.Technology. Brings change but not always an improvement. But I’m hooked. The thing I love about the internet is that it’s open and not hierarchical.
7.Movies. Like books, the best are fantastic with ideas which can move you. But there’s lots of dross.
8.Alone. Being able to enjoy one’s own company is important.
9.Not an Apple person. Apple is the coolest but I think “cool” is superficial. I remember a tailor on a very old TV show who when showing the cloth he had for sale was forced to say “never mind the quality, feel the width”. Apple is under investigation in Belgium for restrictive trade practices. Apple imposes control not freedom. (see technology above)
10.Being able to communicate through writing is a great gift.
